Basically, i'll be reviewing anime/manga here, anyone wants to contribute to it they can. I went and bought 2 mangas today, i had to wait 40 minutes for a bus into town in the freezing fucking cold, not making me a very happy oyster, but still, first manga i bought from my local virgin megastores be;
Chobits Vol. 1 of 8 by CLAMP
The art isn't the most detailed in the world, but neither is it the worst, sometimes it's better like that, even if it sometimes makes it difficult to see what's happening.
As for storylines, let's see, boy, wants to get into a certain tokyo university. "Wait, where have i seen this before," may be your initial thoughts but apart from being set in the future, there is more to this manga than meets the eye.
Persocoms are humanoid computers, most commonly taking the shape of women, everyone's got one, apart from stupid Hideki (I say stupid because he doesn't know what a BBS is) who can't afford one. But when he finds a persocom in the garbage and takes it home for himself, he does.
Hideki names his persocom "chi" as this is all she can say at the start, but it appears that she is no ordinary persocom, she cannot interface with any other persocoms and has no OS.
It goes on with Hideki trying to teach chi things, having his teacher sleep around his house for no apparent reason, trying to buy underwear for chi, and him trying to hide his porn mags.
"This... ...is a tasty side dish! Is she a side-dish?"
I would reccomend it to anyone with $10 or £6.50 burning a hole in their pocket, or someone with just generally $10 or £6.50 to spend.

The other manga i bought i had more trouble buying, i couldn't get it at virgin megastores because i don't look 18, so i just went round the corner to the local comic book shop and bought it there. And now i see why it is rated "M" and has"explicit content PARENTAL ADVISORY explicit content" on the front.
Battle Royale Vol. 1 of 11 by Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi.
The attention to detail here is incredible. The only thing i can complain about is that one of the characters looks slightly goofy and one of them looks like his face needs ironing.
If you've not heard of the battle royale film then i don't know what cave you've been living in. The manga goes much further, Goes into much more detail and is by far gorier than the film.
if you expect me to explain the plot in this one post than i'll pity you. But here's the outline of it.
In the near future, juvenile delinquance has hit such an extreme level that radical new measures have had to have been introduced into the system. The battle royale act or "the program" is a televised event whereby a random class of 9th grade pupils (I'm in year 9 right now) are selected, dropped off on an island and told to fight to the death, there can only be one survivor, if no-one has been killed within 24 hours they all die. And seeing as there are 42 of them, and 2 die before it even starts, it's going to be a violent series.
I'm not going to even try to describe all 42 of them, even the main ones. I'm just going to say that it's not for the faint hearted.
That means if decomposed bodies brains dripping with blood hanging out of their skulls, a stupid amount of blood spraying everywhere when one girls throat is slit, and a sadistic sicko of a "teacher" doing things that i'm not sure really how to describe without getting this BBS shut down offend you, it's a don't buy. If you don't find this offensive in the slightest, don't delay, buy today.
And apparently it has panty shots, whatever the fuck they are.
Could you kill your best friend, because i sure as hell couldn't.

expanding on battle royal...
it is called the "lottery" and a number of kids, in this case 42, are chosen to battle to the death. each person is started somewhere different, on an island, and then are released upon each other. Rated M (18+) moreof because of violence, not sexual content. each person starts with a weapon, rations, etc. violence 5/5 (if you like gory things) humor 2/5 art 4/5 storyline 4/5 over all 4/5

The film kicks ass, did you see it.
It rules.
In the manga it's just some sick game but in the film it's a way to stop children from behaving badly because they buoycot lessons and stab teachers.

Battle Royale sounds AWESOME, I am soooooo downloading it.
And i'm only 13.
I hardly get to see ANY anime, I have to download it, and we have such a shitty connection speed. (28 k modem, and we have to pay $45 a month ( that's about 30 pounds a month, Evil.) I can get broadband for a 3rd of that.)

I don't remember that happening, what Battle Royale were you watching?
It's funny the way everyone who would normally be friends turn on each other out of fear of dying and start blasting the fuck out of each other with shotguns, and that cool scythe like thingy that Mitsuko stabs that one girl in the neck with and blood goes everywhere.
It's one of my favourite films ever.
I cannot say the same for Battle Royale 2 though, the plot is basically exactly the same.

Stfu, nyo. Now where was I....
Excel saga vols.1&2 from ADV
First of all, I got vol.1 for christmas and liked it so much that i got vol.2 3 days later, just showing how much i love this show.
There is no plot but it's about secret agents Excel and Hyatt who work for lord ilpalazzo and his idealogical secret organization of ACROSS. Hyatt is super-anemic and Excel is far too loud and energetic for her own good (not to mention insane)
Other characters include Nabeshin, Pedro, the great will of the macrocosm, Iwata, Sumiyoshi, Watanabe, Misaki (mmmmm Misaki............) the puchuus and maybe more random peoples I forgot about.
I could say the best episode was episode 8, but that would be just for the fanservice, my REAL favourite episode is episode 4, love hena (hena translates as puny) which sees lord ilpalazzo playing a handheld sim date RPG that controls peoples destinies.
The humour in this is weird at best but still it's my all-time favourite anime. I would recommend it to anyone. Just anyone, they may not like it but thats their fault for having no sense of humour.
Artwork: 4/5 Storyline: What storyline? Violence: 4/5 Humour: 6/5 (i like it that much) Fanservice: 4/5 (lol)
Overall:.....5/5
Todays experiment...........Failed.
